As we head into Thanksgiving, I am reminded to stay grateful for all the family and friends who accept my imperfections and realize deep down there is a brokenness and very flawed human. I just try to fill it up with as much light as I can and then pass that on to all of you. Whether it be a meme or a tik tok I send you, a short text or even a voicemail to help brighten your day. I am hugger so if I can give those out I most definitely will. Mostly I just try to remember that we are all broken and flawed in some way. Can I just say how much I love fall!! The colors have been perfect this year, even if it feels like a short season. We all know weather in Kentucky changes it seems every 2 hours or less, lol!! I know it can be stressful on parents to try to coordinate outfits and get everyone out the door just to show up for family fall sessions. Here's the thing...showing up just as you are, being present in the moment with your kids, letting them play and be themselves and lastly, I don't want perfect sessions with perfect kids and perfect parents. What I want is the in between moments, the tongue sticking out and the occasional wild child running like a wild animal. Let me do what I do best and that is capture your family story as it is. I was having a conversation with a ole friend this past week and she was telling me how some of her family and friends were having a hard time accepting some of the changes she is trying to make. She's become quiet and distanced herself from a few, she's trying to find some peace and joy again in her life. As I listened, I immediately related to where she is in her life. I think it is normal to find yourself at a crossroads as we age. The things and people who you use to find enjoyable are no longer serving you much less fulfilling you. As women, we take on so many roles...mother, daughter, wife, housekeeper, cook, financial advisor, etc. There comes a pivotal moment where we just stop, we are done. We are allowed to say no, we are allowed to change, we are allowed to put ourselves first and take care of ourselves. That may mean cutting some people off, changing how you respond, getting quiet and listening to the deepest parts of ourselves to figure out what fulfills us again. I cannot be more grateful for photography and the voice it has given me again. The ability to say to myself that it is ok to be quiet, it is ok to walk out of a room that is no longer welcoming or serving a purpose in my life. I get to decide who gets to participate in this life with me and I get to contribute to yours on a much deeper level because this is who I am. I am the friend that will get you, that will have your back, that will call for no other reason other than I just want to hear voice. I will cheer you on, I will tell you how proud I am of you, and I will love you just because I can. I can't say enough about the value of connecting to your families. When your able to allow them to be themselves, to give enough space where they can naturally connect. I may give a few prompts here and there but mostly I just try to allow things to unfold authentically. I do find when clients choose to come back year after year the process just becomes so seamless and the moments captured are truly the best connections, emotions and true to the spirit of your family. I am so appreciative to give back to them a glimpse into what I see...where family is everything. This is our purpose, to give to one another, to cherish our precious families, to hold them close. There won't be another day like this one, but the memories will be cherished, and the images will last forever. What a way to start out October with a full week of shoots last week and started this week with one tonight. Someone asked me if I was not shooting because I took on another full job that started last week but as per usual, I was like heck no!! I am as busy as ever, which is how I like it. My schedule has changed but I am still able to fit in all my clients. Here is what I know lately...don't be afraid of change. You may have a bit of anxiety but if it feels right in your gut and heart then go for it. Don't stay in toxic relationships or toxic environments...find a way out, work at it, pray about it and doors will open. Lastly, don't let others make you feel you need to be less just so they can be comfortable. If you are uncomfortable with my strengths, my confidence or just me in general...that's on you.
